Keukenhof
Keukenhof, located in Lisse, the Netherlands, is the world's largest flower garden. The name translates to 'Kitchen Garden' in English and is also known as the Garden of Europe. This popular attraction features over 7 million flower bulbs, which are planted in the garden each year. Keukenhof covers 32 hectares of land.
The location of the garden was once used as a hunting ground in the 15th century. The area was also a great source of herbs, which were often used in the kitchen of Jacqueline, the castle of the Countess of Hainaut. It is for this reason that the garden was given the name Keukenhof. In 1949, the garden was officially laid out by the mayor of the city. The purpose of the garden at the time was to help the Dutch export industry by creating an exhibition where both local and European flower growers could display their hybrids.
Although the garden is only open for a short time, it is well worth planning your trip to coincide with this wonderful event. This spectacular showcase of 7 million tulips, daffodils and hyacinths is truly a unique experience.

Giethoorn
It is so peaceful and beautiful that it hardly seems natural – gently gliding along small canals past old but beautiful thatched farmhouses. You can turn into a “side street” (another small canal) and float under a wooden bridge where an elderly resident might stroll to visit a neighbor. No, this is not Venice or Amsterdam. It is the village of Giethoorn in the Netherlands.
It is too quiet, too serene and remote. It is so peaceful that the nickname 'Dutch Venice' can give a wrong impression of size, bustle and commercialism. Here in the Dutch water village of Giethoorn, the loudest sound you can usually hear is the quacking of a duck or the sound of other birds.
Giethoorn is located in the province of Overijssel, east of the Netherlands, a green and quiet area. It is located in the center of the Overijssel canal system. The village is so dependent on the waterways that many houses are not accessible by road. When the postman delivers the mail, he travels by punt.
